Our origin story
Truveta began as an idea within Providence in 2018. Leaders recognized that valuable answers were buried within the vast amounts of data health systems manage every day—answers that could improve how we treat patients, understand disease, evaluate therapies and devices, and better serve our communities. But they also saw two challenges clearly: no single health system had enough data to generate insights for all patients, and building the technology to transform complex health data into timely, trustworthy evidence would require deep technical expertise and significant investment.
CEO Terry Myerson joined the mission in March 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, the need for faster answers became urgent. Families faced conflicting guidance. Physicians were learning in real time how to care for patients with a new virus. Researchers, public health leaders, and life sciences organizations needed better evidence, faster, while traditional clinical research and trials could not move quickly enough to meet the moment. The pandemic sharpened what had already become clear: the world needed faster answers and a new way to learn from real-world patient care. Truveta was built to meet that need.
In September 2020, Truveta was founded by Providence, Advocate Health, Tenet Healthcare, and Trinity Health. More health systems soon joined in a shared mission of Saving Lives with Data. Today, that community of 30 member health systems powers Truveta’s ability to help study any disease, drug, or device across the full patient journey, turning real-world data into evidence that can improve care, accelerate discovery, and advance medical science.
Terry Myerson is CEO and co-founder of Truveta, a leader in EHR data and analytics, led by a growing health system collective that together provide more than 18% of all daily clinical care in the US. Truveta is trusted by more than 50 leading healthcare and life science customers to study safety and effectiveness, improve patient care, and train medical AI. Across these leading organizations, Truveta connects data, people, and ideas to pursue the mission of Saving Lives with Data.
Terry previously enjoyed a 21-year career at Microsoft, leading the development of Windows, Xbox, and the early days of Office 365. As Executive Vice President, serving on the Senior Leadership Team, Terry played a pivotal role in developing the strategy for Microsoft alongside CEO Satya Nadella. Terry excelled at managing large teams at scale, tackling complex software challenges, and driving growth in partnership with a global ecosystem.
After leaving Microsoft in 2018, Terry joined the Madrona Venture Group and the Carlyle Group as an advisor to their investment teams and portfolio companies. He enjoys learning about new technology, particularly at the intersection of data, AI, healthcare, and life sciences.
An entrepreneur at heart, prior to Microsoft Terry cofounded Intersé, one of the earliest internet companies, which Microsoft acquired in 1997.
Terry is a graduate of Duke University and a current member of the Duke Engineering Board of Visitors.
Jay Nanduri is the Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Truveta. Jay oversees teams responsible for engineering, de-identification, AI, ML, security, privacy and compliance at the company. As one of the leaders who coined Truveta’s mission of “Saving Lives with Data”, Jay is passionately motivated by how AI will unlock research capabilities with rich EHR data.
Prior to this role, Jay was a Microsoft Technical Fellow with 25 patents and several technical publications. Jay was one of the top engineers at Microsoft during his more than 20-year tenure. He led Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fraud Protection and Supply Chain Insights, focusing on data gravity through consortiums, AI-driven insights and outcomes, and global optimization using operations research.
He also built cloud-based machine learning graph platforms that power the infrastructure for the purchase and usage of Microsoft products, Microsoft’s loyalty program, store recommendations, e-commerce experience optimization, and campaign systems that increase engagement and monetization for Windows, Xbox, Office 365, Azure, Dynamics 365, and MSN. Jay was also a key leader in building the Bing search engine, including leadership roles in Bing Mobile and Bing Maps.
Jay earned a Master of Computer Science from the National Institute of Technology India and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School.
Michael Simonov, MD is Senior Vice President of Product at Truveta, where he leads product strategy and development across the company’s product portfolio. He is responsible for building data, analytics, and intelligence solutions that enable health systems, life sciences organizations, and public health agencies to generate real world evidence and advance clinical research.
Prior to Truveta, Dr. Simonov served as Medical Information Officer for Research at Yale New Haven Health, where he led clinical informatics initiatives supporting enterprise research operations and set strategy for and executed pragmatic clinical trials across the health system. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship training in clinical informatics at the Yale School of Medicine. He continues to practice medicine at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Simonne Lawrence is the General Counsel of Truveta. She is driven by a belief in the power of data to improve lives and is proud to help advance Truveta’s mission of Saving Lives with Data. With a career spanning over 15 years, she brings extensive experience in healthcare law and regulatory compliance.
Before joining Truveta, Simonne held the position of VP, Healthcare Regulatory at Rite Aid Corporation, where she created and executed on regulatory compliance strategies for Rite Aid and its subsidiaries. She also served as Deputy General Counsel and VP of Compliance at Elixir, a subsidiary of Rite Aid, leading a team of forty professionals, with responsibility for privacy, data protection, and internal audit.
Simonne earned her Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and her Juris Doctor degree from Florida State University College of Law. She is also Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).
Dr. Ryan Ahern is the Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Truveta with more than a decade of experience in healthcare data and clinical research. At Truveta, Ryan leads the Life Science Partner team which focuses on developing new partnerships and ensuring those partners are successful in their research. Prior to this role, he was Head of Corporate Development and Data Strategy at Clarify Health Solutions leading corporate development, including mergers and acquisitions and strategic partnership activities. He also has experience as an Engagement Manager in the Healthcare Strategy and Corporate Finance Practice at McKinsey and Company.
Ryan is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine and practices at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle’s large county hospital. Prior to this, he trained in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical Center and New York Presbyterian; attending physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Ryan currently serves as a business advisory board member at Kitotech Medical, a medical device company with micro staple-based wound closure technology.
Deb Nielsen is the Chief People Officer of Truveta focused on recruiting, hiring, and human resources for the company. She’s passionate about culture with the belief that employees are a company’s most vital asset and resource.
Deb has more than 20 years of experience in human resources, predominantly in technology, media, and staffing. Prior to Truveta, she worked as the Vice President of Employee Experience at OfferUp where she helped the company navigate through accelerated growth. Her experience spans the spectrum of HR functions, most prominently in employee acquisition, growth and retention, compensation and benefits, and organizational development.
She collaborates across all levels of an organization to align employee talent and create an environment where employees and the organization are all working to achieve and contribute their fullest potential. Deb has extensive experience partnering with executive leadership to define company values and culture. She is a trusted partner and advocate for all levels of the company.
Deb holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and International Business from The University of Puget Sound. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has achieved certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
Fabien Mousseau is the Chief Financial Officer of Truveta with over 20 years of experience as a finance leader with expertise in generating strategic insight, driving smart financial and business decisions, designing pricing strategies, managing risk, optimizing cost structure, and establishing reporting and planning processes.
Before joining Truveta, Fabien was Senior Vice President Finance Planning and Analysis at Core Scientific, a startup focused on infrastructure and software solutions for artificial intelligence and blockchain. At Core Scientific, Fabien built the first budgets, helped design the pricing of the new AI PaaS and SaaS business, drove infrastructure capacity planning across the business, and supported more than 20x revenue growth over three years.
Prior to Core Scientific, Fabien worked at Microsoft leading the Customer Lifetime Value program where he built the customer-centric revenue growth framework. He was also CFO of the Windows Business Group, a $15+ billion business for Microsoft, where he helped transition offerings to an enterprise SaaS model and analyzed acquisition opportunities for commercial enterprise growth.
Fabien received a Bachelor of Science in engineering from École Polytechnique, in France, a Master of Engineering in environmental engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Johnathan Lancaster, MD, PhD is President and Chief Scientific Officer, Truveta, leading Truveta Research, Partnerships, and Ecosystem teams. Prior to Truveta, Dr. Lancaster served as Senior Vice President and Head of Global Medical Affairs at Regeneron, was Global Chief Medical Officer at Myriad Genetics, and spent more than a decade at Moffitt Cancer Center as a gynecologic oncologist, translational researcher, Chair of Women’s Oncology, and President of the Moffitt Medical Group.
Dr. Lancaster trained at the University of Cambridge and Duke University in obstetrics and gynecology and completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology. A pioneer in cancer genomics and personalized medicine, he has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and holds eight patents in cancer detection and therapeutics.
